Chronic Disease: What BasiCare Plus has to Offer for Chronic Care

There are approximately 129 million American’s living with at least one chronic disease in America: that makes up 51.8% of the population. The number one chronic disease that American’s battle is heart disease.

Heart disease is a silent killer that we have all heard for many years. Often ignored, because contributing factors such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol do not present symptoms. Preventative care for chronic diseases, through a primary care physician, can catch these two killers early. Furthermore, common, affordable, medications can change the outcome improving both length and quality of life for the patient.

Besides a lack of symptoms, inconvenience and cost often lead to avoidance in preventative care. In 2023, BasiCare Plus contracted with a large national network of physicians to provide virtual primary care for it’s members. Serving large rural populations and groups that were under or uninsured, this service opened affordable access to preventative care as a member pays nothing for the consult and no travel is required for an appointment.

BasiCare Plus Chronic RX

In February of 2024, a group of 734 prescriptions were added to the program. These medications are free to the member through the BasiCare Plus mail order program. The prescriptions included in this program are the most prescribed generic medications for a myriad of chronic diseases but among them, diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol medications make up the bulk of the list. While the program is not insurance and, therefore, does not include or cover many of the newer, expensive drugs, the list provided represents 92% of the medications used for treating chronic issues.

While it is impossible to know how many undetected chronic diseases exist in our population, we do know that there are many who are aware of the risk and avoid treatment. In 2021, according to the Centers for Disease and Prevention, of the 57.9% of adults aged 18–64 who took prescription drugs at any time in the past 12 months, 9.2 million adults (8.2%) reported not taking medications as prescribed due to cost, employing such strategies as skipping doses, taking less than the prescribed dose, or delaying filling a prescription.

Add to this population the millions of Americans who do not regularly monitor their health and you can see why our program is so important. Today you, and up to nine dependents in your household, can get help for your chronic disease through our chronic, acute and mental health medications for less than $60 a month with our individual plan.

We are on a mission to make preventative care easy and affordable to everyone. BasiCare Plus is here to help you with your chronic illness.
